A set of 2 stackable blocks which form the sculpture

Shadow Composite (Southbank Centre — London, UK) No. 1

Screen print on Baltic Birch Plywood with Perspex and rubberised anti-slip fabric

2024

Abstract, modular wooden printed sculpture composed of interconnected Brutalist inspired rectangular blocks with textured grey surfaces and perforated yellow and reddish-brown accents.

These modular works echo the Southbank Centre’s Cubist style building shapes which jut and sprout, their wonderful cast shadows forming whenever the sun puts in an appearance.

The surfaces of each ‘block’ is screen printed with the shuttered concrete details taken from The National Theatre’s exterior walls, the pop of red perspex forms a memory of a poster I glimpsed from one of my visits, whilst the yellow lends a nod to the archival colours used in the original  ‘South Bank Revived’ promotional materials.

Three-dimensional grey, textured blocks inspired by Brutalist architecture and its shadows, with cutouts, arranged against a plain white background.
