Modern abstract sculptures with geometric shapes and vibrant colors in an industrial space with brick and concrete walls.

MFA Show - OVADA Gallery, Oxford, September 2021

Our MFA Fine Art show exhibited the work of both the 2020 and 2021 cohort of Oxford Brookes, MFA Fine Art.

Using the exterior spaces of a 1960’s tower block, my research explored the representation of shadow shapes as abstract and tactile forms. These evolved into hand and laser cut sculptures and digital compositions where the interplay between light and dark, along with contrasts between colour and materiality, capture the more transient dynamics of shadow.

Due to Covid restrictions, I had no access to a laser cutter, so I returned at the end of my course to further develop work I had previously created in card. A year later my work had evolved and so I chose to show current work instead of the work I had developed as part of my MFA research.

The work considers personal themes around memory, absence and loss and those indescribable experiences within the built environment which we are unable to articulate, yet can sense
